Submissions

Before submission, please read Author Guidelines and Submission Preparation Checklist below.

Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to submit to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an Editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before submitting, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study’s country.

An Editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you’re satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Submission Preparation Checklist

Before submitting your manuscript to Sport, Media and Business (SMB), please ensure the following:

  1. Aims & Scope – Review the journal’s Aims & Scope to confirm that your manuscript is suitable.
  2. Manuscript Preparation – Use the official Microsoft Word template to prepare your manuscript.
  3. Ethics and Formatting – Verify that all aspects of publication ethics, copyright, authorship, figure formats, data presentation, and references are appropriately addressed.
  4. Author Approval – Ensure that all authors have approved the manuscript content and have read the Instructions for Authors.
  5. Author Biography (Optional) – Authors are encouraged to submit a short biography (300–1500 characters) along with the manuscript to the Editorial Office.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at [SMB submission portal]. The submitting author, typically the corresponding author, is responsible for the manuscript during submission and peer review. The submitting author must:

  • Include all eligible co-authors in the author list.
  • Confirm that all co-authors have read and approved the manuscript.
  • Follow the authorship criteria provided by the journal.

Corresponding Authors

A manuscript may include up to two corresponding authors: one designated as the submitting author and another as the corresponding author.

All co-authors may access manuscript details in the submission system if they register with the e-mail used for submission.

Supplementary Files

Supplementary files may be submitted in any format, though common, non-proprietary formats are recommended.

Disclaimer: Templates are intended solely for journal submission and peer review and should not be posted on preprint servers or other websites.

Free Format Submission:

SMB accepts manuscripts in free format. Manuscripts must include the following sections: Author Information, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials & Methods, Results, Conclusions, Figures and Tables with Captions, Funding Information, Author Contributions, Conflict of Interest, and other Ethics Statements. References may follow any consistent style; inclusion of DOI numbers is encouraged.

Cover Letter

A cover letter is required with every submission. It should:

  • Explain the significance of the findings in the context of existing research.
  • Justify why the manuscript fits the scope of SMB.
  • Acknowledge any prior submissions to SMB journals, including previous manuscript IDs if applicable.
  • List proposed and excluded reviewers in the submission system, not in the cover letter.

All cover letters must include the statements:

“We confirm that neither the manuscript nor any parts of its content are currently under consideration or published in another journal. All authors have approved the manuscript and agree with its submission to Sport, Media and Business.”

Author Identification

Authors may submit a biography (300–1500 characters) including:

  • Full names and current positions
  • Education background with institutions and years of graduation
  • Work experience and research interests
  • Professional society memberships and awards

If accepted, an ORCID icon linking to the author’s profile will be added to the published paper.

Author Affiliation

All authors should list:

  • Current affiliation
  • Affiliation where the majority of the research was conducted

Correct author names and affiliations are essential for proper attribution, citations, and professional recognition. Post-publication updates to affiliations may not be allowed.

Independent Researchers: Authors not affiliated with an institution during manuscript preparation should list themselves as “Independent Researcher.”
